7de Laan Review: Marko’s Narcissism

As an avid 7de Laan viewer, and a romantic at heart, I must admit that I was disappointed with the way things turned out for Esti (Reandi Grey) and Rickus(Rickus Lotter). We all know Marko’s(Francois Lensley) history with women has been disastrous since he became a resident at Hillside. For Marko to declare his ‘fake-undying-love’ to Esti just before Rickus proposed was uncalled for and so absurd. If he truly loved her, he wouldn’t have chosen Emma over Esti or benumbed his feelings and watched Esti and Rickus fall in-love.

Marko is a cold-hearted, calculating heartbreaker and he’s been this way since the 90s with countless women on the show; San-Marie(Amalia Uys) Emma, Paula, etc. There’s really nothing going on in his life without Esti and her son (Thomas) and he bemoans his choices. He’s also a sore loser who won’t accept defeat.

Here’s the proof in the pudding: Now that San-Marie is back, he doesn’t need Esti anymore. He’s going to have a fling with San-Marie and overlook Esti who chose him over Rickus. Esti is going to go back to Rickus and beg him for a second chance. Don’t be fooled by his charm and smile at heart – he’s truly a narcissist.
There’s no better match for the villainous DeWet(Dirk Stolz) than Mariaan(Deidre Wolhuter). Both are equally badass, wicked, and deceitful. The writers have been planning this match-made-in-hell since Chris Wellman left the show. They love Mariaan more than Erika and wanted to find a man for Mariaan. She’s going to move back in the house and it’ll be like she’s always been married to DeWet. He was never in love with his wife (Erika Basson) because she tolerated him as he did her. The only woman who ever confronted DeWet and who he loved was Sandra Starterheim. He likes them ratchet, evil, and spontaneous.

Prepare for war!
