Arthur Mafokate Takes Cici To Court

Arthur Mafokate is set on getting what is rightfully his as he has taken ex-girlfriend and ex-record label signee Cici Twala to court. According to Sunday World, the producer and record label owner claims that Cici has not paid him an amount of R60 000 as per their signed agreement.

The two have taken each other to court again as Arthur demands a share of Cici’s artistic work. Mafokate’s record label 999 signed an exclusive artist agreement with Cici back in 2016, where she was supposed to have recorded two albums under the label.

Arthur wants the court to grant him access to Cici’s financial records in order to see how much money she has made after exiting his record label, so he can make a claim.

In the papers written by Arthur, the publication claims to have seen, state that Cici gave his company 999 ‘four separate and distinct but consecutive options to extend the term for four further periods of 24 months each’, which can be extended by two years.

A clearance agreement came about when Cici wanted to leave the record company in 2017. This agreements makes 999 the sole owners of Cici’s future artistic work, which include singles and albums, as they hold the publishing rights. They also own all the copyright and intellectual property of the albums released whilst she was still signed under the label.

His record label is according to him, entitled to 6% royalties of her albums, as well as another 6% of the revenue generated on the three albums to be recorded by Cici as long as they were not released three years from the date in which she left his label.

Cici’s gigs or songs she produced herself would be owned by 999 with royalties amounting to 12%. Her sponsorships and endorsement deals she would have bagged, 10% would go to 999. These are just some of the details on the contract.

As it stands, Cici is signed under Ambitiouz Entertainment and the producer claims to have not been informed by her when she joined the label in 2017. He estimated that Cici generated approximately R1 million from her album Busisiwe and the 8 songs she has released whilst signed under Ambitiouz. From this amount, he claims to be entitled to R60 000, an amount Cici has not paid.

All the conditions laid out on the papers from the performances, albums, sponsorship deals and endorsements she has bagged, he has not received any amount from Cici despite his efforts to get her to pay up.
