Chef Lesego’s Partner Breaks Silence

We are still in shock following the untimely passing of award-winning and popular chef Lesego Semenya, famously known as Les Da Chef.

The media personality had contracted COVID-19 and was documenting his road to recovery these past few days, however, talent manager Miz Marcee announced the news of his passing.

Lesego’s partner, Sisipho has shared some of their memories together on her Instagram stories.

Lesego appeared in various productions such as Mzansi Magic’s Celebrity Masterchef where he was a judge and host. He was also on the award winning SABC3’s Top Chef. His talents went as far as being a best selling author, who announced last month that he fully own rights to his very first book Dijo.

Announcing his death Marcee wrote, “It is with great pain that I have to share this: Chef Lesego Semenya @LesDaChef has passed away. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts. We have lost a huge part of our heart. We will never be whole again. R.I.P Lesego,” she announced.

The cause of death has not been revealed. Just last week Friday, the 39-year-old had given his followers an update on his COVID-19 road to recovery. He had always highlighted the fact that he is a young person living with a comorbidity so his recovery was not made easy.

He said he had been taking loads of medication and with the help of his doctor, he was feeling better. He only needed to rest and continue medicating.

“Day 5. Still fighting this Covid demon whilst living with a comorbidity. I’m OK, loads of medication and keeping positive. Thank you to those who keep checking up on me. Dr reckons I’ve seen the worst of it now and it’s just about recovery and rest now,” his last tweet read.

He had written a thread about how he was recovering and what type of medication he was taking. Apart from that, he also shared how he was keeping his mind occupied. He would spend most of his time in the sun accompanied by his dogs.

One of his issues was that as a person who is financially privileged to fight the virus, his heart ached for those who live in low-income homes. He also slammed government for not prioritizing people living with comorbidities regardless of their age.

“One thing that’s scary for me though, is just how expensive it is to fight this thing with the right meds. I’m fighting it from a privileged vantage point. I can’t imagine someone with a comorbidity like mine in a low income home having access to these things,” he wrote.

“Gov really let us “non-old” people with comorbidities down when they changed the strategy on vaccines without even trying to find a workable solution. And that’s that on that.”

Mel Bala wrote a heartfelt tribute after learning about the passing of Lesego, “In the early days of Twitter (c.2009/10/11), we were a bunch of strangers who connected through banter & info sharing, and slowly learned more about our fellow tweeps & their lives. Those online friendships moved offline to meeting in person. It was so exciting to meet a @,” she laughed.

Tweeps are still shocked by the untimely passing of Les Da Chef.
