Is Babes Wodumo Going Into Gospel Music
Gqom queen Babes Wodumo is on another level these days! Following the release of her second album Idandokazi, many have reckoned that she is back by popular demand. Babes had a controversial 2019 which saw her falling from grace, but she has recovered from all the drama.
This follows her tumultuous relationship with Mampintsha, which saw her being abused, and her social media accounts hacked. But speaking to ZAlebs she poured cold water to claims that her recent album was her comeback.
“It’s really funny cause I never left, I was around and busy performing. I’m a Queen for goodness sake, I’ve been booked every weekend until I got a space to record due to the Lockdown,” she said.
It seems Babes has embarked on a new journey in her life and we cannot wait for this fascinating chapter. The Durban based musician recently posted a video where she visited her father’s church
Babes took to stage to praise God by delivering a stellar perfomance. The musician sang a gospel titled Masimbinge blessing a number of churchgoers, but despite receiving backlash for her outfit which some said it was inappropriate. Babes received praises for her vocals and for finally taking it to church.
Sharing the video she said her hair was not in a good state “At church izolo kwamaphumulo kodwa izinwele zami guys.” It translates to “at church yesterday at the Maphumulo’s. My hair though guys.”
A fan asked her to release a gospel song with pure gospel instruments and she said she will. It seems Babes is now ready to deliver as she posted a video in studio singing a gospel song Sizwile, which she has worked on before but this time around it was a pure gospel song. Can we expect her to drop it anytime soon?
Babes later posted a video with her boyfriend Mampintha looking smitten and said they will reach their destination soon he just needs to be patient.
In an interview with Afternoon Express two years ago Babes expressed that she loves God despite being a gqom singer. “Babes Wodumo is a girl from the township…who loves God a lot…a person who loves to have a good time, I love having a good time, wherever people are having a good time I follow.”
“If there’s a need for me to be voted for, he stands on the pulpit and asks the congregation to vote for me, my dad is full of love, he wears shirts that are written ‘Babes Wodumo’ and says: “Can you see who I look like?”…and he’d say “Do you know Babes Wodumo? I’m her father” So I think they are proud of me,“ said Babes, speaking about her father who is a pastor.
