More On Sello Maake Ka-Ncube’s Gender Based Violence Fight

Gender Based Violence (GBV) has rocked the country for many years now and the pressure mounts every time a woman is reportedly murdered by their partner. Many celebrities have taken a stand against this pandemonium and Sello Maake Ka-Ncube is doing more than just voicing out his disapproval of this vile act.

In June the veteran actor held a successful march against GBV with his Act Now organization, which saw people coming out in their numbers to march to the Union Buildings.

The #ACTNow march had many celebrities and concerned citizens who want to see a drastic change to the current violence against women and children in the country.

Kaizer Motaung Jnr and DJ Sbu were among the ZAlebs to engage with the masses and voice their concern as leading male figures in the country.

“We take responsibility. We stand up and begin this journey of recovery by awareness and accountability of how we have failed our society. Men now is the time to show that the strength of a man lies in how he loves, cares and protects those around him,” said Kaizer Motaung.

Now, Sello is working on another awareness campaign following his successful march, his organisation will be hosting a virtual benefit concert titled “Act Now Telethon.” The telethon will take place on Saturday, October 23 and will bring together South Africa and the world, with a 12-hour awareness dialogue, a music concert as well as a fundraising platform.

The ‘Mzansi Act Now’ campaign is formed by a group of men who want to see change and put a stop to the nonsensical violence against women and children.

Sello was asked by IOL news how he plans on achieving his goal and he simply said, “by raising our voices of dissent towards GBV we hope that this will prick the conscience of men.”

Details include an opening dialogue on issues relating to GBV, and they will be inviting the government and the corporate sector to also tackle gender based violence.

To make a global impact, “Act Now” will be using social media Influencers, sportsmen and sportswomen, artists and actors who have a strong social media following to share key messages about GBV before, during and after the telethon.

Black Coffee has also been very active in his fight against GBV. He called on celebrities to take a stand and call on government to take action. He organised a march that would hopefully shine light on these atrocities
