Ntsiki Takes Aim At Thuso mbedu

Ntsiki Mazwai has taken to Twitter, as always, to subtly throw shade at Thuso Mbedu who has scored gigs in two American films. Thuso’s series, where she plays lead called The Underground Railroad sees her playing a slave who seeks refuge from slave catchers.

As excited as we all are to see Thuso in action, Ntsiki is highly unimpressed by this because she feels as though Thuso is cooning. In other words, she is taking such roles which centres around slavery, to appeal to the American audience.

This does not only apply to Thuso, she thinks this is the main requirement for African actors to play slaves, so they can have their in breaks in Hollywood.

“To be accepted as an actor in America, you have to play the slave, basically cooning,” she wrote. She reckons that is done to remind black people that they are “slaves” and the main point in her argument is that there are no films about white opressors.

Check out the series of tweets below:

Well, taking Thuso’s side is Kuli Roberts who had to do so by throwing shade at Nomzamo Mbatha. Both these actresses are getting gigs in America and making mzansi proud but many feel as though they are in competition with each other.

Kuli Roberts feels as though Thuso does a great job at keeping her wins silent instead of announcing her every move. She compared her to “someone”, who she did not name, who announces every moves.

“Thuso works quietly, ngesafa ngabanye, (we would not hear the end of it if it were someone else.) There would be posters about every interview and trips to the toilet,” she tweeted.

She then took it further by saying, “Someone once did a poster for a Radio interview. The poster was so ambiguous, we assumed uMomomo had a new slot. Obviously we congratulated her on her new slot, cause we are animals. Kanti uyothetha for 5 minutes (she was only going to speak for 5 minutes) Akunzimar.”
