The Braai Show With AKA Gets A Premiere Date

SABC 1 has officially confirmed that The Braai Show With AKA will be premiering on Thursday, 12 November 2020. The casual-style talk show will be getting the 19:30 primetime spot on the channel, making sure all of Mzansi is available to see our boy on the small screen.

In an official statement from SABC 1 on Thursday, 5 November 2020, Zandile Nkonyeni, SABC Head of PR stated, “As a big supporter of local hip hop culture, SABC 1 is excited to welcome Summer 2020 in style with one of Mzansi’s most favourite and talked-about rapper, AKA. It’s important for the channel to further its commitment to bring our audiences must-watch local content that is relevant, fun and entertaining and in this case, to get the opportunity to go beyond the music and explore the artist’s other talents. AKA and his guests promise to keep it fun and interesting for our viewers.”

Those who are familiar with AKATV would have previously seen the first few of the upcoming episodes, however the channel has informed viewers that The Braai Show With AKA will be a 13-part series. First four episodes will feature prominent members of society such as the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula; famed TV presenter and fashionista, Siya “Scoop” Ngwekazi; Afrotainment owner and creator of the “Fact Durban Rocks” movement, DJ Tira; as well as South African Hip Hop Award winner Moozlie.

According to AKA, The Braai Show with AKA is a celebration of what it means to be young and free in Mzansi and will provide viewers a unique opportunity to take a glance into the lives of Mzansi’s most intriguing personalities as they are hosted by the award-winning rapper who will be facilitating the interviews, asking all the hard-hitting questions whilst sharing a charred chop fresh off the braai.

In addition to being Mzansi’s most talked about personality, AKA also enjoys winding down to some good food and great company. It is this love for all things grilled that gave birth to The Braai Show with AKA.

The series initially premiered on AKATV back in May 2020, and went on an indefinite hiatus without any warning. After fans inundated him with queries, their complaints did not go unnoticed and AKA took to Twitter to acknowledge their complaints and apologised as he gave an explanation as to why.

“Apologies with the delay of new content on the #AKATV app. I’m busy moving some things around in terms of the business model and on the technical side for a better all-round experience,” shared the rapper.

Looks like the “Better user experience” meant it was coming to SABC 1!
