Chef’s tribute to late brother on MasterChef SA

The 26-year-old from Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, has taken her passion to MasterChef SA Season 5. The new season premiered on S3 on Saturday, 13 July and she shared her experiences with Daily Sun.

“My experience on MasterChef SA was a necessary push I needed to have the courage to shift gear in my culinary future and take a chance on myself and my skills. Despite its brevity, it inspired me to continue recipe development and kickstart my private chef career,” Lesego said.“I don’t know if I’ll be eager to leap back into the MasterChef kitchen as a contestant, but maybe one day, I’ll return as a guest judge.”

Lesego mentioned her late brother as her inspiration for cooking, believing he’d be proud to see her on the show. “If my brother saw me cooking on national TV, he would say the judges need to have their tastebuds checked lovingly and caringly. He would tell me to keep my head high and believe in myself, but most importantly, he would tell me how proud he was to see me breaking out of my shell and showing the world what I’ve always kept hidden,” she said. The cook, who is also a food content creator, had challenges, fun, but most importantly, she learned a lot on the show.

“The hardest part of being in the kitchen was using the Wustof knives, without a doubt. I had never set my hands on such sharp, pristine knives in my life, and it took a lot of adjusting to get used to them.

“One thing I’ve learned from being on the show is not letting anything get in the way to fulfilling my passion. Cooking is a love I can’t and won’t give up on, no matter what,” she said.
