Abia Nale Faces Potential Loss of Home Over Unpaid Debt

Former Kaizer Chiefs footballer, Abia Nale, is at risk of losing his home due to an outstanding debt of over R400,000, as reported by City Press. The former player, who was part of the Chiefs squad from 2009 to 2014, recently received a warning from Standard Bank. The bank informed Nale that his house could be auctioned if he fails to settle his outstanding amount of R415,804.
Background of the Debt

Nale, now 38 years old, reportedly got into financial trouble while still actively playing football. According to a court sheriff speaking to City Press, the debt stems from a financial agreement made in 2009 when Nale was playing for Kaizer Chiefs. Nale entered into an overdraft arrangement with the bank, which he occasionally used but failed to repay consistently.

“The issue dates back to 2009, when he was still playing for the club,” said the sheriff. “He entered into an overdraft agreement with the bank and has been using it without adhering to the repayment terms.”
Failed Repayment Plan

The report details that Nale had initially agreed to pay back the debt in installments of R21,000 per month. However, he has not made the required payments, leading to the current situation where the bank is threatening to take legal action to recover the funds.
Nale’s Football Career

Abia Nale made his move to Kaizer Chiefs in January 2009 from Golden Arrows. He played for the team regularly for about three and a half seasons. While he was not known for his prolific goal-scoring abilities, Nale did contribute significantly with two goals and four assists during the 2008/09 Premiership season. He managed to replicate this form in the following season, making 24 appearances in the league.

Nale’s time at Kaizer Chiefs came to an end in 2014 after spending time on loan at clubs like Ajax Cape Town and MP Black Aces. He officially left the club after several loan spells and has since been away from the spotlight.
Financial Challenges After Football

Despite his time in the spotlight as a professional footballer, Nale’s financial situation highlights the challenges that some athletes face after their playing careers end. It is not uncommon for former sports professionals to struggle with managing their finances once the steady income from their careers stops.
