Meet Rachel Kolisi’s lookalike siblings, parents

Like many divorces, sides are often picked. And it’s no surprise that the same has sadly happened with Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and his wife Rachel, who recently announced their marriage split.

While the rugby player is likely to have support from his colleagues and fans, Rachel will no doubt count on her nearest and dearest to help her through the difficult time.

RACHEL KOLISI: MEET HER LOOKALIKE SIBLINGS
Rachel Kolisi – whose maiden name is Smith – is likely to lean on her family through her divorce proceedings from her husband, Siya.

This includes her well-known brother, sports agent Joel Smith, who is married to retired swimmer Tatjana Smith (nee Schoenmaker)

Rachel also has three lookalike sisters: Human Resources executive Hannah Tagicakibau, who is married to New Zealand-born rugby player Sailosi Tagicakibua; interior designer Tabitha Parkin, who is based in Cape Town; and Sarah Kispert, who lives in the US.The sisters, who have a striking resemblance to each other, were “grooms women” at their brother Joel’s wedding last year. All four women wore matching suits.

PARENT’S DIVORCE LED HER TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND SUICIDE ATTEMPTS
Rachel’s parents, Deborah Jamieson and Clive Smith, divorced when she was a teenager.

While Clive remained in South Africa, Rachel’s mom moved to New Zealand.

Speaking in the Mpoomy Ledwaba podcast in 2021, Rachel reflected on her parent’s tough marriage split.

She said: “I know everyone in their teenage years has their own struggles. Mine were because of my parents’ divorce, and we were all involved in that process and dragged in the middle of it a lot.

She continued: “My parents’ divorce was really challenging; I lost my way so much and found myself in unhealthy friendship circles. They would be like, ‘If you’re having a bad day, let’s have a drink or a smoke,’ and that’s the environment I found myself in, and it just spirals. Depression does that.

“I was in a hole, and I just wished that someone would drop down a ladder or a rope.”
Rachel Kolisi’s healing journey

Not long after, Rachel attempted suicide. She continued: “At 15, I tried to take my own life. I spent two to three years cutting myself and crying for help but not finding it.”

In the years that followed, Rachel learned to prioritise her mental health. Following her divorce announcement last month, the mother-of-two revealed that she was on a “journey of healing.”

The recent announcement of Rachel and Siya Kolisi’s divorce has sent shockwaves through South Africa, leaving many fans reeling from the end of a marriage that once seemed inseparable. The couple, who became public figures not only for their love story but also for their dedication to family and community, has faced a difficult decision. Yet, despite the heartache, Rachel Kolisi’s journey of healing shows her remarkable strength, resilience, and commitment to personal growth.

In a recent Instagram post, Rachel opened up about her emotional state following the split, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming kindness and support she’s received. “This is so hard. I have genuinely been overwhelmed by kindness and love, and I’m so grateful. Fully committed to my healing journey. Peace is my portion,” she shared, offering a glimpse into her emotional recovery. Her words not only reveal the pain she’s experiencing but also her determination to move forward with grace.

WEEKEND OF REFLECTION AND REJUVENATION
Rachel’s post was accompanied by heartwarming images from a weekend getaway with her children and Siya’s sister, Liyema. The family trip, which included a few moments of fun—like teaching Liyema how to drive, served as a reminder of the importance of family and self-care during difficult times. With her children by her side, Rachel’s focus remains on nurturing their emotional well-being while also prioritising her own.

“A weekend for the soul,” Rachel captioned the photos, which depicted her enjoying time by the pool and reflecting on life. “I have a busy week ahead, so this was very needed,” she added, showing that even in the face of adversity, she values moments of peace and introspection. These small acts of self-care, amidst the chaos, underscore her resilience in the face of public scrutiny.

KOLISI: THE POWER OF SUPPORT
As Rachel continues to share her journey on social media, her openness about the emotional toll of divorce offers insight into the often-overlooked healing process. Divorce isn’t just about legal separation; it’s a deeply emotional and personal experience that requires time, introspection, and emotional support.

Rachel has been vocal about the power of the support network around her. Friends, family, and even strangers have reached out to show empathy, and she’s made it clear that these messages have made all the difference. The mother of two has emphasised her commitment to “healing” and her decision to place peace and personal growth above all else. This period of her life is not just about finding closure. But about discovering a new path forward with a renewed sense of strength.

In a world where public figures are often expected to maintain an air of perfection, Rachel’s vulnerability is a breath of fresh air. She has shown that it’s okay to struggle, and that healing is a process—one that doesn’t happen overnight. Her courage in being transparent about her emotional journey has sparked conversations about the importance of self-care and mental health. Particularly in the aftermath of a high-profile breakup.

ROAD AHEAD: GROWTH AND CO-PARENTING
Despite the end of their marriage, Rachel and Siya Kolisi have vowed to remain committed to their children and continue co-parenting as friends. Their mutual respect for one another, as outlined in their joint statement, shows that they are both focused on the well-being of their two children, Nicholas and Keziah. “We will continue to foster friendship while co-parenting our son and daughter,” Rachel shared in her initial announcement. Signalling a cooperative and healthy approach to their family dynamics moving forward.

For Rachel, the focus is now on her own growth and well-being, along with the care of her children. Her journey is about finding peace and reclaiming her sense of self. Something many women can relate to when going through a transformative period in their lives.

KOLISI: STORY OF STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE
As Rachel Kolisi embarks on this new chapter. Her ability to remain strong and focused on her healing is a powerful reminder of the importance of self-care, emotional resilience, and the support of loved ones. While the pain of divorce is undeniable, Rachel’s journey proves that it is possible to move forward with dignity, grace, and a renewed sense of purpose. Through her vulnerability and transparency, she is not only healing herself. But also inspiring others to embrace their own personal growth and healing in times of hardship.
