Actor James Earl Jones passed away at the age of 93 🕊

In 1971, he became only the second Black man nominated for an Academy Award for best actor, after Sidney Poitier.
Star Trek actor LeVar Burton was among the first to pay tribute to Jones, saying “there will never be another of his particular combinations of graces”.
Also paying tribute, US actor Colman Domingo wrote: “Thank you dear James Earl Jones for everything. A master of our craft. We stand on your shoulders. Rest now. You gave us your best.”

Kevin Costner, who co-starred with Jones in Field of Dreams, said: “That booming voice. That quiet strength. The kindness that he radiated. So much can be said about his legacy, so I’ll just say how thankful I am that part of it includes Field of Dreams.”
Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer wrote Jones’ “voice and talent will be remembered always” and that “legendary doesn’t even begin to describe his iconic roles and impact on cinema forever.”
Crystal Minkoff, wife of The Lion King co-director Rob Minkoff, posted a photo of Jones holding a statue of Mufasa alongside the words: “Rest in Power, Mr Jones. You made a young animator’s dream come true when you accepted the role of Mufasa.
“Thank you for all you have done for Rob. Your memory will live on.”
Jones was also the voice of US broadcaster CNN’s “This is CNN” tagline.
“He was the voice of CNN and our brand for many decades, uniquely conveying through speech instant authority, grace, and decorum,” the broadcaster told the Hollywood Reporter.
“That remarkable voice is just one of many things the world will miss about James.”

Born in Mississippi in January 1931, Jones said he was unable to speak for most of his childhood because of a stammer.
He explained he had developed his famous voice while working on how to deal with the stammer.
Jones was best known for voicing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars film, which came out in 1977, and sequels The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
He reprised the role in later film releases such as the first instalment of the Star Wars anthology series, Rogue One, and the third instalment of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – both released in the later 2010s.
A different actor always donned the Darth Vader costume and provided the movement for the famous villain, including the late David Prowse, with Jones lending his deep and instantly recognisable voice.
“I love being part of that whole myth, of that whole cult,” Jones said in an interview with BBC HardTalk in 2012, adding he was glad to oblige fans who asked for a command recital of his “I am your father” line.
Jones said he never made much money off the Darth Vader part – only $9,000 (£6,884) for the first film – and he considered it merely a special effects job.
At his own insistence, he was not given a credit for his performance. He felt it was all merely another “special effect”.
When the films broke all box office records, he was persuaded to rethink.
Jones was also well known as a television performer, playing the older Alex Hailey in Roots: The Next Generation and winning one of his two Emmys for the lead role in the US drama Gabriel’s Fire.
His gravelly tones were used in The Simpsons and he appeared in early episodes of Sesame Street.
Jones also tackled many iconic Shakespeare characters on the stage, including Othello and King Lear.

King Monada dragged to the court again

It never rains but pours for South African singer King Monada, who has been dragged to court for failing to show up for a music festival gig.

Since his thrust into the limelight, he has undoubtedly been winning big and has been busy and booked. However, despite his big wins, he has had his fair share of drama.

POPULAR PROMOTER SUES KING MONADA
Of late, he has been missing out on gigs despite being paid. He has fast become one of the most controversial stars when it comes to bookings.

Impresario Eric Thoka has dragged King Monada to the courts after he refused to refund him for failing to pitch up at a festival Thoka had organised on New Year’s Day last year.

According to reports, Thoka has since obtained a summons from the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court in Nkowankowa, outside Tzaneen, Limpopo.

The summons, dated 17 March, were obtained under Thoka’s company, Monate Africa. The summons states that King Monada refused to refund him after failing to pitch for an event.

However, the South African can confirm that King Monada was paid around R49 000 but ghosted the promoters.

Rumour has it that hundreds of fans drove to Lebowakgomo, a township outside Polokwane, for the show only to return home in the wee hours without witnessing his performance.

“On the day he was due to perform, we called him to find out his whereabouts. He replied that he was in Pretoria, apparently attending another gig and promised to come to our show on time,” Thoka said.

However, Thoka revealed to the media that King Monada complained that they made him a headline artist for their show but short-changed him by not paying the related fee.

“We told him that he was not a headliner,” he said.

THOKA: ‘WE DECIDED TO GO THE LEGAL ROUTE’
After missing the gig, King Monada promised to refund the money, but nothing has materialised. To make matters worse, he stopped taking Thoka’s calls.

However, his manager, Albert Makwela, intervened and promised to resolve the matter. “But after several months of not getting our money, we decided to go the legal route,” he said.

After all, this is not the first time he has ghosted promoters. King Monada has a similar case before the courts.

The chairperson of the Limpopo Arts Movement, Mphoza Mashabela, is suing King Monada for failing to show up at the Limpopo Legends Awards event. He organised the event two years ago.

“We need food and I am a single mom” – Former Isibaya actress Gcina Mkhize asking for help as she is struggling financially

Popular South African actress Gcina Mkhize says she hasn’t been able to work as an actress and her situation has become difficult.

The former Isibaya actress, Gcina Mkhize is asking for donations and reveals that she is not coping with a lack of job opportunities.

She says in a viral video on X: “Good morning, South Africa. As you can see, I slept in this house with only a curtain acting as my door. My safety and my children’s safety is compromised.”

“I lay awake, asking myself what can happen in the middle of the night when my home is like this. Because anyone can just come in and do as they please.“We need to be connected to the outside world. We don’t have any resources, and we need the help of law enforcement agencies to help us,” she adds.

The actress also says the kind of help doesn’t matter as her situation has become dire since she hasn’t been able to work.

“We need food, and I am a single mom. But I will not leave this room because what this person wants to do is constructive eviction,” she adds.

IOL reveals that it’s unclear if Mkhize is renting or owning the property.

SA Artists are struggling, I don’t know the full story but please reach out this lady@sindi_ndimande: “I remember reading her story on one of the newspapers. She failed to keep up with the payments of the house. The house got sold at an auction & the new owner had been trying to move her without success.”

@Lindo_Mnisi: “Is she willing to move into a backroom ekasi (township) in order to regroup her life?”

@MakiMarish: “Not to be harsh. The landlord is trying to evict her for rent. She admits she is not getting gigs and has no income What help does she require?”

@SthembiD: “Buying property needs financial advisors. Most artists end up struggling because they buy properties, they won’t be able to pay up long term. She allegedly failed to pay, then the house got auctioned, now she is resisting eviction. I pity her. But can you imagine what the owner is going through too?”

Umkhokha| Nomkhosi is set to be leaving the show

Angel Zuma, best known for her character of the devious Nomkhosi in Umkhokha: The Curse, has once again surprised South Africans with her exceptional talent.

The actress first became known for her part as Zethu on Uzalo, but it was her portrayal as Nomkhosi, Khulekani Mthembu’s wife, that secured her place in the entertainment industry.

It has been rumoured that Angel Zuma is leaving Umkhokha: The Curse to take a part in the critically acclaimed musical drama The Lion King. In the South African soap opera, the actress portrays Nomkhosi, Khulekani Mthembu’s wife; nonetheless, her desire of expanding internationally has finally materialised.

According to Zimoja, a source confirmed the event: “My friend has always wanted to travel and work abroad.” You don’t pass up the opportunity to work on a production like The Lion King. It’s every actor’s fantasy.

The producers were reportedly unhappy because they were not prepared to lose her and were not looking for a replacement. “They wanted to see more of her on the show because she does it so well,” claimed an insider. I’m not sure how they’re going to handle this one because she didn’t leave on a cloud. “She might return and shoot her exit scenes properly,” stated an insider.
