Miss Universe Africa Chidimma Adetshina’s mother detained over citizenship fraud

Miss Universe Africa Chidimma Adetshina’s mother detained over citizenship fraud

The mother of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma Adetshina, was detained in Cape Town on Saturday after being found residing in South Africa despite her documents being revoked last year.

Anabela Rungo was declared ineligible to remain in the country in September 2023 after authorities discovered she had allegedly committed identity fraud to obtain South African citizenship.

Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza stated that Rungo’s continued stay in South Africa, despite her ‘undesirable’ status, raised further concerns. “Investigations are ongoing into potential misrepresentation and fraudulent conduct,” he said.

During the arrest, officials also found Adetshina’s young child living with Rungo. Authorities have since involved the Department of Social Development and the SAPS Child Protection Unit to ensure the child’s welfare.

Following her processing by Home Affairs, Rungo is expected to be handed over to the South African Police Service as she remains under investigation by the Hawks.

Adetshina’s family background first came under scrutiny when she advanced to the top ten of Miss South Africa 2023. Many questioned her nationality, prompting her to clarify that she was born to a Nigerian father and a South African mother of Mozambican descent. However, a Home Affairs investigation later uncovered possible identity fraud linked to her mother.

Amid the controversy, Adetshina withdrew from Miss South Africa but went on to represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe pageant. She emerged as first runner-up and won the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

Tr@gic Passing of Former Mamelodi Sundowns Player Siyabonga Zulu in Car Acc ident

It is with great sadness that iDiski Times reports the untimely death of Siyabonga Zulu, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana left-back, who tragically passed away in a car accident on Saturday. Zulu was 31 years old at the time of his death, which occurred following a tragic collision involving players from his current club, Phezulu FC.

Zulu, who was a key figure in South African football, was in the car alongside Nhlanhla Masina, a former TS Sporting player, who also lost his life in the accident. A third player, Thabo Mosadi—who had played for Ajax Cape Town and Swallows FC—is said to be in critical condition and currently fighting for his life in a hospital.

The accident reportedly occurred shortly after Phezulu FC’s match against Sivutsa Stars at Driekoppies Stadium, leaving the local football community in shock. Zulu’s passing has left a deep hole in the hearts of many, especially his family, teammates, and the broader football community in South Africa.

Siyabonga Zulu’s Football Journey

Zulu began his professional football career at the Orlando Pirates academy in 2011 before being loaned to several clubs, including Blackburn Rovers, Sivutsa Stars, and United FC. In 2015, he made the decision to leave Orlando Pirates and joined Platinum Stars, which, unfortunately, no longer exists today. His journey continued in 2018 when he was signed by the renowned Pitso Mosimane at Mamelodi Sundowns, joining notable players such as Gaston Sirino, Aubrey Ngoma, and Jeremie Brockie.

During his time at Sundowns, Zulu was a reliable defender and a regular feature in the team. He also made a brief but memorable appearance for Bafana Bafana in 2015, under then-coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, where he earned his single international cap. His work ethic and dedication to the game made him a respected player both locally and abroad.Zulu’s untimely passing is a stark reminder of how fragile life can be, and his legacy in South African football will undoubtedly be remembered by all who knew him. His dedication to the game and his contributions to both club and country have left an indelible mark on the football scene.

In the wake of this tragedy, the football community stands united in grief, and the support for the players and families affected remains strong. Our thoughts are with Thabo Mosadi, who continues to fight for his life in hospital, and we hope for his full recovery.

Conclusion

Siyabonga Zulu was more than just a talented footballer; he was a beloved figure in the South African football world. His passing, alongside Nhlanhla Masina, is a tragic loss that has left the nation in mourning. The football community will forever remember Zulu’s contributions to the sport, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of watching him play.
