Miss SA Mia Le Roux – “Chidinma deserved a spot on Miss South Africa”

Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux addresses Chidinma Asetshina’s experience.

Mia and Chidinma joined other models in contesting for the crown, but Chidinma withdrew after being bullied and with the revelation of the Home Affairs department about her mother’s fraud case.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Mia Le Roux said Chidinma Adetshina deserved to be part of the pageant.

“It was extremely hard for us because each one of us personally knows and loves Chichi. We truly believe that she did not deserve it, as we know she’s phenomenal, powerful, and beautiful in her own right. She deserved her spot on Miss South Africa,” Mia said.

The Miss SA further preached unity, as her goal as the reigning queen is to foster inclusivity.

“I stand for unity. I do not stand for people being divided. So, I do think we can do better in that aspect to support and include one another. Because she was excluded, and that is not okay.”

Get to know your new Miss SA

This past weekend, South Africa welcomed a new queen to take over the reins from Natasha Joubert. Mia Le Roux was recently crowned as the new Miss SA 2024, with her victory being one of the most impactful ones as she was diagnosed with profound hearing loss and was fitted with a cochlear implant to assist with her hearing at the age of one.

Although Mia’s victory was a tale of the underdog, the young model has proven that she is more than capable of occupying her new throne successfully, with inclusion being at the top of her priority list.

As she will be on our screens and in our lives more, here are some interesting facts about South Africa’s newest ambassador that you might have not known:

Sign Language is her first language

As someone hard of hearing, learning sign language was imperative for Mia as it is an effective way to communicate. Although it is more common for people’s first language to be their mother tongue, however, this is not unusual for those with hearing challenges.

Born in Free State, raised in Western Cape

Mia was born in a city in the Free State called SasolBurg, which is situated approximately an hour from Johanessburg. She then later moved to Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape where she was raised.

Passion for pageants

Although this was her first time entering Miss SA, our new queen is no stranger to the bright lights, glitz and glamour as she has a few titles to her name. She began all the way in high school when she bagged the ‘Miss Struisie’ title as well as ‘Miss Garden Route’. She also entered Miss Deaf SA where she made it to the top five.

Marketing

Before entering the Miss SA competition, the 28-year-old worked as a Marketing Manager, while also studying towards obtaining a BCom Marketing qualification at the University of South Africa (UNISA), She also worked part-time as a model, signed with Ice Models in Cape Town.

Love life

Although it is uncertain the duration of the relationship, Mia is in a relationship with fellow model Luke Tenoever, and the two share their love for each other frequently on Instagram.

Gospel star Hlengiwe Mhlaba reveals her heavenly secrets

Gospel singer Hlengiwe Mhlaba admits she’s baffled by her own voice. The KZN musician believes her singing style is incomparable.

“My voice is unique. I myself, I don’t understand it,” she said.Hlengiwe, known for her hit Dwala lami, never mimicked others in her singing journey.

“My voice is my gift from God and calling,” she stated.Hlengiwe is committed to her singing career for life, preferring to die a singer than anything else. Despite not envisioning a future in gospel music initially, she now sees her singing as a ministry that touches lives.

“People who grew up with me were shocked when they saw me singing,” she recalled.

Apart from singing, Hlengiwe enjoys reading, laughing, and joking. She’s passionate about helping others achieve their goals.

Her advice for aspiring musicians is to seek divine strength and maintain humility.

“Music industry is not easy. It has its own challenges. But they must remain humble and be able to celebrate other people,” she advised.Hlengiwe also emphasized the importance of love and support in the music community. She expressed concern over the gospel industry’s struggle to secure gigs as frequently as other genres.

“I’m appealing to Christians to support gospel music emotionally and spiritually,” she urged.

The decline in CD sales has significantly impacted gospel artists, according to Hlengiwe.
