Chidinma Adetshina’s Miss Universe Nigeria win attracts mixed reactions

Chidinma Onwe Vanessa Adetshina’s win at the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant has sparked controversy on social media.

Chidinma was offered the opportunity to compete a week before the finale, which she accepted upon withdrawing from the Miss South Africa pageant.

On Saturday night, the 23-year-old was crowned winner of the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024; hence she will be representing Nigeria at Miss Universe in Mexico.

The model’s wins sparked controversy as some Nigerians claimed that the organisers were biased, as it was believed that other contestants deserved the crown.

Read some of the comments below:

“Flew her over to give her the crown 😂😂. What an interesting country.”

“Some girls actually went through the due process, auditioned and you people gave the crown to someone that didn’t even choose to represent you in the first place. Is that a way of telling the other girls that they’re not good enough? Even when you announced top 5, you guys only played Chidimma’s video. How does that make sense. What message are you trying to pass across to young and aspiring girls. Is the crown meant for pity?”

“@chichi_vanessa how do you feel wearing another woman’s crown? Because deep down ur heart you know you don’t deserve that.”

“Nigeria is solidly behind you….let’s go for the crown come November in Mexico.”

“Chidimma spent only 5 days in Nigeria and went on to win Miss Nigeria over women who spent their entire lives there😂😂💔🇿🇦 Nigerians have to hurt themselves to spite us.”
