Gospel star Hlengiwe Mhlaba reveals her heavenly secrets

Gospel singer Hlengiwe Mhlaba admits she’s baffled by her own voice. The KZN musician believes her singing style is incomparable.

“My voice is unique. I myself, I don’t understand it,” she said.Hlengiwe, known for her hit Dwala lami, never mimicked others in her singing journey.

“My voice is my gift from God and calling,” she stated.Hlengiwe is committed to her singing career for life, preferring to die a singer than anything else. Despite not envisioning a future in gospel music initially, she now sees her singing as a ministry that touches lives.

Her musical journey began in her youth at the Apostolic Faith Mission in KZN.

“People who grew up with me were shocked when they saw me singing,” she recalled.

Apart from singing, Hlengiwe enjoys reading, laughing, and joking. She’s passionate about helping others achieve their goals.

Her advice for aspiring musicians is to seek divine strength and maintain humility.

“Music industry is not easy. It has its own challenges. But they must remain humble and be able to celebrate other people,” she advised.Hlengiwe also emphasized the importance of love and support in the music community. She expressed concern over the gospel industry’s struggle to secure gigs as frequently as other genres.

“I’m appealing to Christians to support gospel music emotionally and spiritually,” she urged.

The decline in CD sales has significantly impacted gospel artists, according to Hlengiwe.
