Miss Universe runner-up Chidimma Adetshina opened up about making history for Nigeria at the international pageant held in Mexico City, Mexico on 23 November.
CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA ON BECOMING MISS UNIVERSE RUNNER UP
Former Miss SA finalist Chidimma Adetshina expressed that she felt proud to make history for Nigeria when she became the Miss Universe runner-up. Chidimma had already made history when she placed in the Top five because Nigeria had not made it that far before. Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, from Denmark, was crowned Miss Universe.
“It was such an exciting moment for me. I honestly felt so proud of myself that I got to make history for Nigeria. And not only for Nigeria, it was also a very fulfilling moment for me because I got to achieve one of my dreams,” she said according to Business Insider.
Chidimma was believed to have lived in Soweto, Gauteng. However, there were doubts that the model actually lives in Soweto, as the identity theft controversy came into light, which led to her dropping out of Miss SA. Here’s five things to know about the beauty queen here.
Chidimma also expressed that she felt like she was capable of placing and had doubted herself.“I always felt like I wasn’t really good enough, and I wasn’t capable of winning or even placing. As much as I had a journey of growth and learning a lot about myself and my confidence, I was still doubting myself and not thinking so highly of myself,”
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that I am capable, and I should not allow people to dictate my life and my journey. My future is always going to be in my hands,” she continued.
CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA REVEALS SHE’S QUITTING PAGEANTARY
While Chidimma did become the Miss Universe runner-up, she also stated that she was quitting pageantary to focus on her education.
“I am putting pageant to bed. I’m going to focus more on my education and establishing who Chidimma is. More into runways. So many things I would like to touch on and see where my potential can go to,” she said in an interview with BBC Pidgin.
“I’m glad it’s all done so I can focus on myself and my mental health. I think that’s important for me,” she continued.
