LERATO is pleading for an RDP house.
The concerned woman said she’s as good as living outside due to the condition of her family’s three-roomed home.
Lerato Makuwe (46) from Klipgat in North West, claims the Madibeng Local Municipality erected a toilet in the yard almost 10 years ago as a preliminary step to building her dad an RDP.
The worried woman said if the toilet were big enough, she would have moved in to avoid living in a dilapidated house, which is on the verge of collapse.
Lerato said on 20 October 2024, heavy rain, accompanied by strong wind, blew the roof away, leaving them exposed to the elements, which destroyed their property and the little food they had.
“I’m not working and don’t have money to fix the house. My parents have died,” she said.

Lerato, who lives with her 14-year-old daughter, alleged that her dad applied for an RDP long ago and is still waiting for it.
She’s appealing for a proper house.
“We survive on my daughter’s R510 and my R350 grant. This is painful,” she said.

Lerato moved back to her parents’ home in 2020 from Soshanguve.
“My biggest wish is to have a better home before Christmas. I don’t feel okay. I’m living outside. I feel like when it rainis, I can come and live inside the toilet,” she said.

Lerato’s 52-year-old neighbour said: “We plead for Lerato’s family to get an RDP house, which will be of great help, especially looking at their situation.”
The neighbour also mentioned having a toilet but no RDP house and waiting for years.
Madibeng Local Municipality spokesman, Tumelo Tshabalala, said: “We’re investigating the matter, and will revert back once we’ve verified information at our disposal.”
