Nomonde “Smondz” Patience Vakalisa, a significant voice in the radio world, died at the age of 47.

Her enchanting journey with Umhlobo Wenene FM left an indelible mark. The radio station confirmed her death with a heartfelt message: “It is with profound sadness that Umhlobo Wenene FM announces the passing of Pastor Nomonde Patience Vakalisa, who departed in the early hours of 4 December 2024.”

Pastor Nomonde’s dynamic radio career began with her hosting the Top 30 chart show, Izikhokho Zomzantsi.

Her vibrant personality bloomed as she co-hosted the Break-a-Slice-fast breakfast show with “Slyso” in 2009.


 

Pastor Nomonde was deeply passionate about gospel music, inspiring listeners on shows such as Iqonga lomculo wevangeli, and Imvuselelo alongside greats like the late Reverand Joe Lofafa.

In 2023, she stepped up as the main anchor of Ngenani Emasangweni Ngendumiso, continuing to uplift her audience.

In 2024, she took charge of Beka Ithemba Lakho Kuye after Reverand Rweqana’s retirement.

Pastor Nomonde also captivated TV audiences on SABC2’s Ichibi Lendumiso, exploring Christian worship across various denominations.
