At the time he was a pupil at Curro Hazeldean High School in Pretoria. This means that Walaza was juggling the Paris Olympic experience with his schoolwork. Curro High School’s Executive Head, Pierre Le Roux, revealed that Walaza has opted to pursue his studies at the University of Pretoria. This is despite receiving offers from the USA and various parts of Europe.

Walaza has chosen to remain under the guidance of his coach, Thabo Matibedi, who coaches both at the high school and Tuks University. The university has just confirmed that Walaza has enrolled with them. He is studying a qualification in Supply Chain Management.

“Hey TUT Fam! We are thrilled to announce an exciting new addition to our community. Olympic silver medalist, Bayanda Walaza has enrolled at TUT and is now pursuing a qualification in Supply Chain Management. We wish him all the best in his academic journey,” the university announced.
