Why are you causing so much pain for us?’ – Senzo Meyiwa’s mother demands answers from Khumalos

Why are you causing so much pain for us?’ – Senzo Meyiwa’s mother demands answers from Khumalos
Ten years after the tragic murd er of Senzo Meyiwa, his mother, Ntombifuthi Meyiwa, has expressed her anguish and called for answers regarding the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. Senzo, a renowned South African footballer, was shot at the home of singer Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Gauteng, on October 26, 2014. The incident occurred in the presence of several individuals, including Khumalo, her family, and Meyiwa’s friends.

In a heartfelt interview with eNCA, Meyiwa’s mother directed her appeals to Kelly Khumalo’s mother, Ntombi Khumalo, urging her to disclose the truth about that fateful night. “I want justice to be served,” she emphasized, questioning the Khumalo family about their silence. She poignantly asked, “What do you talk about when you talk to your daughters? Don’t you think of the family that lost their child?”

Ntombifuthi’s plea reflects a deep-seated pain and frustration, as she struggles to understand the Khumalo family’s continued silence on the matter. “Mama, you want to die without telling us how my child died,” she lamented, expressing her sorrow over the lack of compassion shown towards Meyiwa’s family. “Why are you causing so much pain for us?” she implored, emphasizing the lasting impact of her son’s death on his family, especially his children.

Earlier this year, testimony in court suggested that two of the accused claimed Kelly had a role in Meyiwa’s murder, although no substantive evidence has been presented to support these allegations. Meyiwa’s mother maintains that she has not found closure with the Khumalo family and feels they should have approached her during their time of mourning to explain the events of that night. “It’s already been 10 years,” she stated, reflecting on the prolonged agony her family has endured.

As the trial of the five men accused of Meyiwa’s murder continues in the Pretoria High Court, Meyiwa’s mother has opted to stop attending proceedings. The emotional toll of witnessing others express grief in court has become unbearable for her. “Why are they not telling the truth about what happened to my child?”

Despite the years that have passed, Meyiwa’s mother remains steadfast in her belief that the truth will eventually come to light. “Our God is a living God,” she affirmed, expressing hope that the hidden details surrounding her son’s murder will eventually be revealed.

The case has drawn significant public attention, with many questioning why key figures, including Kelly Khumalo, have not been held accountable in the wake of the tragedy. As the legal proceedings unfold, Meyiwa’s family continues to seek justice and closure for their loss, highlighting the deep scars left by the unresolved case of Senzo Meyiwa.
