Skeem Saam actress Zinhle Mazibuko says she loves being on set.

MOST things happen when you’re about to throw in the towel.”

These are the words of Skeem Saam actress, Zinhle Mazibuko.

The 33-year-old from Umlazi, KZN, plays Joy on SABC1’s beloved drama series.

She shared with Daily Sun that it took her eight to nine years to break into the acting industry.

“There were times I almost gave up. Thank God for my therapist who encouraged me to pursue my acting career once again. I got my breakthrough in 2021,” Zinhle said.

Being in Skeem Saam has taught her much about a professional environment.

“It’s been a journey for me. What I’m grateful for is that the work environment is not toxic,” she said.Zinhle’s journey began in 2021.

“I was still in Durban, working at Virgin Active as a fitness instructor and studying. I flew in and out to shoot my scenes and then returned to Durban to cover my shifts. Initially, it was exciting, but eventually, it became overwhelming and tiring. But I appreciate the journey.”

She loves her character, Joy, for being bubbly and outspoken.

“Joy is complicated. I never know which direction she’ll take next. She’s full of surprises, and that’s why I enjoy playing her. She’s nosy and into people’s business, which sometimes makes me think, ‘girl, chill’. There’s still room for her to grow,” she said.

Zinhle explained that she and Joy are different.

“I dislike being into other people’s business. I’m the kind of woman who’s happy not being updated on what’s happening in someone’s life.”

Zinhle mentioned that Skeem Saam has impacted her career positively.

“I’m just a girl from Umlazi. You know how we’re perceived coming from there, but God elevated me to a place I never imagined. He’s a faithful God, and I’m grateful for where I am in life,” she said.
