There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at 3C Ministries Church last Friday, where friends and family gathered to honor the life of Thabiso Sikwane. The tribute was led by her children, and the emotions in the room were palpable. This memorial service had all the feels as it marked the tragic passing of Thabiso just hours before she was set to celebrate her 50th birthday.
Thabiso, known for her warmth and resilience, was remembered not only as a beloved mother but also as an inspiring figure in her community. She shared four children with DJ Fresh, whose real name is Thato Sikwane. Their marriage lasted from 2002 to 2022, and even though things got complicated along the way—he even fathered a child during an alleged outside relationship—the love they had for their children remained strong.
As the service unfolded, a clip shared by eNCA showcased the heartfelt tributes from Thabiso’s children. The youngest, Lefika, spoke about the indelible Christian values his mother instilled in him. “She said that when she passes, we must pray and continue to know God. Now that she’s gone, we haven’t been praying a lot. I’m trying to do that,” he shared, embodying the deep spirituality that Thabiso encouraged in her kids. Then came Thato Jr., the couple’s firstborn. His words were particularly poignant as he referenced his parents’ marriage struggles without shying away from the reality of their relationship. “I believe I brought my mom purpose in life beyond marriage with my dad,” he reflected. His tribute celebrated Thabiso not just as a mother but as a resilient woman who overcame various struggles in her life. “At the end of the day, she prevailed, and she woke up the next day happier than she was before,” he said, capturing the essence of his mother’s spirit.
While the family is still awaiting the results of a post-mortem to understand the cause of her untimely death, DJ Fresh shared his suspicions about a potential cardiac event on social media. “It does not make sense to anyone how this could happen out of the blue,” he expressed, reflecting the shock and disbelief felt by many.
In a world where time often feels fleeting, Thabiso’s memorial was a profound reminder of the love and legacy one leaves behind. The heartfelt tributes from her children painted a portrait of a woman who, despite the challenges she faced, committed herself to her family and lived her life with purpose and joy. We can only hope that the love she fostered will continue to shine through her children in the days to come. Rest in peace, Thabiso Sikwane. Your light will be missed but never forgotten.
