TRIBUTES pour in for beloved Umhlobo Wenene FM host.

Mzansi is mourning the death of Pastor Nomonde “Smondz” Patience Vakalisa, who died in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 4 December. She was 47 years old.


 
Umhlobo Wenene confirmed the heartbreaking news, leading to an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, media personalities, and religious leaders across Mzansi.

Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule shared an emotional farewell.

“Fare thee well, Pastor Nomonde Vakalisa. Rest in eternal peace. You have fought a good fight. We will meet in the heavenly place of the saints.”

Radio presenter and media personality Keke Mthathi expressed her grief.

“It feels so weird not to write ‘standing in for Pastor Nomonde Vakalisa’. Death, however, is cruel. Keep your faith in Umhlobo Wenene FM,” she said.

Fan Philani also paid tribute to the late Nomonde.

“Nomonde Vakalisa, may your soul rest in eternal glory. You served God and His people until the end.”

 

Umhlobo Wenene issued a heartfelt statement, saying: “It is with profound sadness that Umhlobo Wenene FM announces the passing of Pastor Nomonde Patience Vakalisa, who departed in the early hours of 4 December 2024.”

Pastor Nomonde’s health struggles were well-known among her listeners. In May 2024, she shared her illness publicly, bravely mentioning she had become incapacitated. Her unwavering faith and resilience inspired many who tuned into her show.

In September 2024, as her condition worsened, Umhlobo Wenene hosted a Tribute and Fundraising Concert in her honour.

The event highlighted the deep admiration and respect she earned throughout her career.

Pastor Nomonde leaves behind her son, Emihle Vakalisa, who was her constant source of strength. Known for accompanying his mum to the studio from a young age, Emihle shared a special bond with her.

She’s also survived by her colleagues and an audience who cherished her voice, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
