Unathi talks about her breakup with Somizi

In a recent and startling interview on the popular “Podcast and Chill” show, former Idols South Africa judge Unathi Nkayi made waves by dropping a bombshell about her ex-colleague, Somizi Mhlongo. Known for her candid nature and unfiltered storytelling, Unathi didn’t hold back as she delved into the reasons behind their strained professional relationship, which has long been the subject of speculation.

The revelation that left many listeners in shock was Unathi’s confirmation that Somizi is a convicted sexual offender. Unathi was firm in her stance, stating, “I don’t defend sexual offenders…he was convicted. Guys, it’s there. Do your Google, my love.” She urged the audience to verify the information themselves, underscoring that this is not just hearsay but a matter of public record.

During the interview, Unathi recounted her time on Idols SA alongside Somizi, where the tension between them was evident. She revealed that when the show was considering Somizi’s return, she made it clear that she would not continue with the next season if he were reinstated. Unathi’s decision was rooted in her unwavering commitment to her principles, despite the professional consequences she knew it might bring.

Unathi’s decision to speak out has ignited conversations across South Africa, with reactions ranging from shock to acknowledgment of Somizi’s well-documented legal troubles. While some are surprised by the bluntness of Unathi’s disclosure, others are not as taken aback, given that Somizi’s past has been covered in the media before. Nonetheless, Unathi’s choice to openly address such a controversial topic has brought renewed focus on the ethical complexities of fame, friendship, and accountability.

The interview also touched on Unathi’s ongoing legal battle with Kaya FM, where she is suing the station for R1.6 million after the termination of her contract in 2021. The lawsuit includes claims for contractual damages, delictual damages, and the infringement of her right to dignity. This legal action further highlights the tumultuous period Unathi has faced in her career, marked by both professional and personal challenges

Makhadzi explains why she won’t perform at Phalaphala Royal Heritage Festival

Makhadzi reportedly rejects R150 000 from the organisers of Phalaphala Royal Heritage Festival.

The award-winning musician is a loyal talent to the fest as she performs there annually, but this year appears to be different.

Numerous rumors and reports have circulated about Makhadzi rejecting the money, but she has turned to social media to clarify the situation.

“I am not going to Phalaphala Royal Heritage; they say they don’t have a budget. I am setting the record straight so that my fans and followers shouldn’t say I intentionally refused to be there or I am becoming big-headed,’ she wrote.

“I realised that there were already false rumours spreading about my name in this regard. I’m still Makhadzi of the nation under the motto; no pay, no job, and vice versa,’ she said.

“As someone who’s organising my upcoming one-woman show at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 21 December, I really get on good terms with the fact that organisers aren’t compelled to book an artist without a proper budget to do such,” she added.

Makhadzi will be hosting her One Woman Show on the same day with the fest. The show will hold in December and tickets are almost sold out.
