Simphiwe Loses Her Mother

Musician Simphiwe Dana has announced that her mother has sadly passed away. The musician did not reveal much about her mother’s passing and what caused her death.

The Bamako hitmaker is left heartbroken but grateful at the same time for her mother’s grace that was instilled in her and her siblings. Dana’s mother was a COVID-19 patient and had a comorbidity, this according to the songstress. She had diabetes but was handling the virus well.

“Our wonderful mother, MamJoli, left us earlier today. We are wounded, but grateful for the grace with which she raised us and all her other adopted children. Please hold us in prayer,” she pleaded.

In June last year, Dana revealed that she was battling COVID-19 but was taking care at her home. She was a retired nurse who did not want to let go of her calling as she went back to work at an old age home.

“My mom has been diagnosed with the corona virus She is a retired nurse who went back to work for an old age home because nursing is her calling. She is recovering at home and seems to be ok. She has diabetes. Still I will have faith she will pull through,” she said at the time.

In her comments section are people consoling her and sending their heartfelt condolences:

“Aaahh I’ m so sorry for your loss sis’wam. You shared a lot about your mother and how she was not well at some point. I saw how u were up & down ufenela uMama amayeza (searching for medicine for her). May she rest in peace. She fought a good fight,” a follower wrote.

“Condolences to you and the entire family. Everyone knows how much all of you loved your Mom, how scared you were when she got sick. We rejoiced when she recovered. This loss is on top of a mountain of loss. I pray for you to get through this time. You are loved.”

“I feel like I know uMamJoli because of the song “Umzali Wami”, I bet that’s how we all feel. Thank you for introducing us to her, yanga angaphumla ngoxolo (may she rest in peace). Sending you and your family loads of love and light.”

“Deepest heartfelt condolences Ms D….through music we are all adopted children baka Mamjoli… We loved her for giving birth to a Healer who helped us navigate through the MAZE of life…understand the value of a parent and to love them unconditionally…MHSRIPP.”

Social media has been seeing a lot of RIP’s lately. Just a few days ago, we lost celebrity chef Lesego Semenya, popularly known as Les Da Chef. The 39-year-old lost his battle with COVID-19. His last tweet was of him documenting his road to recovery and was in day 5 of isolation.

“Day 5. Still fighting this Covid demon whilst living with a comorbidity. I’m OK, loads of medication and keeping positive. Thank you to those who keep checking up on me. Dr reckons I’ve seen the worst of it now and it’s just about recovery and rest now,” his last tweet read.

With the vaccination drive underway, Lesego was angered at how young people with comorbidities like him were not prioritized. “One thing that’s scary for me though, is just how expensive it is to fight this thing with the right meds. I’m fighting it from a privileged vantage point. I can’t imagine someone with a comorbidity like mine in a low income home having access to these things,” he wrote.

“Gov really let us “non-old” people with comorbidities down when they changed the strategy on vaccines without even trying to find a workable solution. And that’s that on that.”
