Tributes Continue To Pour In For The Late Mahotella Queens Member

Tributes are continuing to pour in for Mahotella Queens founding member Nobesuthu Mbadu.

The legendary singer reportedly passed away this week due to kidney failure. She died at the age of 76.

Her Family spokesperson Vanessa Tloubatla told Sowetan that the family and colleagues would like to be afforded space to mourn.

“Her family and colleagues are devastated and ask that you allow them the space and time to mourn this amazing queen peacefully and respectfully. More details will be shared on the funeral and memorial service,” Tloubatla told the publication.

Paying respect to the late Mbadu, Bongani tweeted: “I wish the remaining members of Mahotella Queens to be strong during this sad and difficult time of passing of Nobesuthu Mbadu.RIP Mama, you have made your mark.”

On Facebook, Lungani Mhlongo also wrote: “My Landlord, grandmother and a friend. I stayed at your house for 7 years and I ended up being a trusted family member. Rest In Peace Nobeuthu Mbadu. #Amahotella Queen Member ”

The music industry is still mourning the passing of another legendary singer Sipokazi SK Nxumalo.

Sipokazi was a founding member of the triple Grammy award-winning gospel music group Soweto Gospel Choir.

She succumbed to cardiac arrest earlier this month. The choir shared the sad news on Instagram.

“Soweto Gospel Choir, family, friends, and fans, are saddened by the sudden loss of our own. Sipokazi SK Nxumalo has gone to be with the Lord. Soweto Gospel Choir sends hearty condolences to everyone who lived with, loved, and shared life with SK.

” She is already missed and it will be so for a very long time…Let the song speak of the great moments and talent she shared with the Soweto Gospel Choir and the world. Rest in memories Sk.”

Soweto Gospel Choir Leader Shimmy Jiyane told Daily Sun that her death shattered them.

“We started the choir with her. She was one of the founding members. Sipokazi was one of the strongest members and an anchor for the choir.

“When we think about the things she did for the music industry, South Africa, the choir, and everything she did for the Lord, it breaks our hearts that she is now gone.”

Sipokazi’s sister also told the paper: “We are not coping, she meant a lot to us and we are taking it one step at a time. We are trying to be strong for her kids, she has two sons.”
